The Princess Royal discussed food, farming and environmental opportunities in the next couple of years. She questioned the necessity of the fields of solar panels springing up across the countryside, and the efficacy of the subsidies that drive these. She lent her support to GM, arguing that it is going to play a part in the provision of food of the right value. She explores whether support should also be used to enable producers to grow food “staples” at a reasonable cost so that all consumers can afford them.
