Kent’s Rural Economy PLC would rank at 60th in the FTSE100, reports Rural PLC (Kent)

Last week’s Rural PLC (Kent) event, hosted by Canterbury Christ Church University, heard from Richard Ashworth MEP, the Conservative spokesperson in Brussels on agriculture and rural affairs; Dr Amelia Hadfield and Dr Mark Hammond of CEFEUS at CCCU; and Charles Tassell of LEADER.  Kent’s Rural P&L for 2016 showed a decrease in turnover year on year to £476.5m from £505.6m in 2015, but a dramatic increase in profits to £41.3m from £21.5m the previous year. Richard Ashworth MEP encouraged caution regarding the possible outcome of the Brexit negotiations, noting that the UK’s bargaining hand is not perhaps as strong as some would like us to believe.  CCCU put out a plea for further information to assist their research for a report on “Making Brexit A Success for Kent’s Rural Economy.”
