INNOVATIVE ROBOTS COULD SOON BE PICKING RASPBERRIES IN THE SOUTH EAST AFTER A SOFT FRUIT GROWER SIGNED UP TO TEST A NEW HARVESTING SYSTEM, reports the CLA. CLA South East member, Hall Hunter Partnership, which farms in Surrey, Berkshire and West Sussex, has agreed to field test high-tech harvesting robots. The collaboration will enable the technology to be tested in a range of environments such as fields and polytunnels, under different climatic and light conditions. Once the technology has been proven it can be adapted easily for other fruit and vegetables. The Hall Hunter Partnership grows 14,000 tonnes of raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. The lead academic behind the programme is also working on a tomato harvesting project and an application for cauliflowers.
